A Promise Kept: First, the Incredible Schubert Symphony That Almost Nobody Has Heard

2006/3/20 16:33:41

A promise kept. The CD upload problem is solved. First, an offering: the most incredible and rarely-heard Schubert symphony -- his last!

In the post "Serious Request: Hoping to Fulfill a Wish, But Encountering Legal and Technical Obstacles!" I mentioned having a massive CD collection at home, hoping to share it with everyone. By the logic of left-wingers and right-wingers who love to run their mouths, they probably thought it was just talk. But a promise is a promise. After much effort, the CD upload problem has been resolved. The only thing affected is speed, because a single symphony is at least several dozen megabytes, and I worry the hosting site can't handle this much traffic. Since we're still in the experimental phase, please raise any issues you encounter.

Here I first upload Schubert's last and most incredible symphony. Schubert's most famous works are the Eighth ("Unfinished") and the Ninth ("The Great"). But very few people even know about the Seventh and Tenth, let alone have heard them. The Seventh has a completed piano score that was later orchestrated, making it more or less complete. I originally wanted to upload that one first, but the first movement alone exceeds 10MB, surpassing the single-upload limit. So I can only upload the Tenth. Three movements have completed piano scores that were later orchestrated. A completely unique style -- the last swan song of history's greatest musical genius at age 31.

The files are large, so please be patient. Additionally, this ID has many original compositions that I'd like to upload, but plagiarism and piracy are too rampant these days. So major works like symphonies and operas definitely cannot be uploaded. When there's an opportunity, I'll upload some less important small pieces, such as little tunes based on folk song motifs and some things written in my teens.
