Mr. Mathematician and Other Leftists Who Learned a Bit of Probability — Do You Need to Go Back and Learn Some Chinese?

2006/4/22 18:57:36

Last year, a post by this ID telling Mr. Mathematician to go back and study some probability caused Mr. Mathematician to disappear for several months. He finally learned a bit of probability and came back, now able to drop this theorem and that law to bamboozle people. However, I must still remind Mr. Mathematician: when you use this theorem and that law to bamboozle, you've already assumed that these theorems and laws can be theoremed and lawed. And all such theorizing and lawing is, in essence, tautology. Today I must again advise Mr. Mathematician and other leftists to take a rest, go back and study Chinese properly. Otherwise, blathering all day isn't a good look.

Mr. Mathematician addresses this ID as "Ms. Chan" — is this meant to display his petit bourgeois sensibility? The laboring masses that the left claims to represent would more likely call an unmarried woman "gu niang" (miss). Of course, this isn't a big deal — the left's hypocrisy between exterior and interior is well known. But then, the consistently two-faced Mr. Mathematician once again begins his concept-swapping, redirecting "saving" toward the notion that the dead cannot be "saved." But even following his substituted concept, the supposed "savability" of his "people" is also a lie. Even the universe will ultimately perish — a puny humanity on a tiny planet, what's there to save? Also, Mr. Mathematician, please stop pretending to know what you don't: Buddhism has never acknowledged any rubbish concept like a "soul." You've been dosed with anesthesia and are hallucinating — there's no need to drag Buddhism into it. That's not ethical.

Concept-swapping is bad enough. Cherry-picking quotes is even worse. But these are leftist specialties, so no surprise there. Take one called "Juezhan" (Decisive Battle), who cherry-picked from this ID's "a single butterfly's tremor could possibly produce worldwide storms and thunder — and you, a full-fledged human being, surely don't need some fabricated 'great star of deliverance'?" and twisted it into: "Look at the self-contradiction — since this math girl uses the butterfly effect to argue that a butterfly's wings can control the atmosphere, then naturally a great star of deliverance can control social forces." Anyone with a shred of Chinese comprehension can see through this cherry-picking trick. If you don't understand, go look up what "could possibly" means.

Any individual, including so-called great stars of deliverance, has influence on so-called social development that is no different from a single butterfly's tremor. Through the right confluence of circumstances, it could possibly produce worldwide storms and thunder. But even worldwide storms and thunder eventually return to silence. The general direction of social development is ultimately not manipulated or guided by any person. Everyone participates in constituting and naming it. Everyone's salvation ultimately comes from within themselves. A class composed of individuals — its salvation ultimately comes from within itself too. You, and only you, are your own great star of deliverance! But you can only be your own great star of deliverance. If a butterfly flutters and stirs up some worldwide commotion and then stops treating itself as a butterfly — declaring itself the great star of deliverance for the whole world — then this butterfly's brain has simply rusted. If a human has such thoughts, they've truly become a butterfly — probably that one from the Lacquer Garden clerk's dream!

Concept-swapping and cherry-picking — beyond issues of reading comprehension, these are more about the quality of one's character, which can't be fixed by studying Chinese. But I still advise the left to take a rest and go study some Chinese, to strengthen reading comprehension. Otherwise, if your character is already bad and you become a kindergartener like the right — an idiot — that wouldn't do. Of course, if the left insists on continuing this way, that's fine too. At least the left and right can unite under the banner of the Kindergarten Faction!
