England: Ditch the Beckham Shell, Win the Golden Cup!

I've never much trusted pretty boys. While Beckham's skills can't be called poor, they're just too soft -- always making you uneasy. Last time they lost to Brazil, that Ronaldinho break-in was caused by Beckham going soft in the legs and losing the ball. With Beckham, England always gives you the nagging worry that they can't build to a proper climax -- that at any moment things might suddenly go limp, spoiling the party.
Football is an excellent way to consume men, but if you're going to consume men, at least pick quality ones. Better to park Beckham on the bench as a substitute and have Gerrard take his position at right midfield. Joe Cole on the left, Lampard and Carrick in the center (front and back), Rooney and Owen (Crouch) as strikers, back four from left to right: Ashley Cole, Terry, Rio, Neville, goalkeeper Robinson. This formation has both power and a certain flair -- absolutely stronger than relying solely on Beckham's one trick of a foot. England, ditch the Beckham shell and go win the Golden Cup!
