On the Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Macau Issues, Mao Zedong and Others Bear Fault!

2006/4/9 17:24:45

A very simple logic: if one scorns all unequal treaties, then it is absolutely impossible to let unequal treaties continue until their so-called expiration. Therefore, the fact that Hong Kong and Macau were only recovered at century's end — and recovered in such a manner — is extremely absurd and unforgivable. Consider: Hong Kong and Macau are tiny slivers of land that posed absolutely no military difficulty whatsoever. Why was recovery delayed by 50 years, and moreover, why couldn't they be recovered in a manner fully identical to the mainland? Here, Mao Zedong and others' fault cannot be overlooked!

There is a peculiar argument that portrays not recovering Hong Kong and Macau as Mao Zedong and others' deliberate choice to keep a breathing hole, or to preserve a wormhole extending toward the West. Yet at the time, everyone was chanting about red flags sweeping the globe — this explanation is complete nonsense. If they could wage war against the so-called UN forces in Korea, was there any excuse for these tiny slivers of Hong Kong and Macau? Surely it couldn't have been to honor so-called unequal treaties!

Then there's Taiwan. "Press on with remaining courage to chase the fleeing bandits; do not seek fame like the Hegemon King." Those were Mao Zedong's own words. Could that shallow strait really render the above pledge void? In truth, it was not that it couldn't be done, but rather that it was not done. Don't give me that "deliberately didn't attack, divinely calculated" nonsense! If they truly deliberately held back with divine foresight, had they already foreseen the machinations of the likes of Lee and Chen? Is there any divine calculation in this world that could allow America to grip Taiwan as a strategic chokepoint for over 50 years?

People are people, not gods. Everyone has moments of confusion or times when they bungle the most important matters because they're preoccupied with other things. Clearly, on the Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Macau issues, the 1950s was the optimal window for resolution. Everything now is just making up for past mistakes. Don't talk about how much economic benefit Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Macau brought after 1979 — in reality, they received far more benefit after 1979 than they gave. Nobody owes anybody!

During the Cultural Revolution, the Red Guards chanted about liberating the entire globe — yet they couldn't even sort out their own Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Macau? Is there a bigger joke in the world? With time for so many campaigns, was there really no time for Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Macau? This joke is absolutely more than just a joke. Not having been born into this world at that time, I missed the opportunity to witness firsthand this joke that was far from a joke!
