The War of Resistance Against Japan -- Who Was the Mainstay? Okamura Yasuji's Personal Opinion! (Note: Chan's Tianya post was deleted)

The War of Resistance Against Japan -- who was the mainstay? This kind of question probably has no standard answer. Different positions yield different answers. Let us first look at Okamura Yasuji's personal opinion!

Okamura Yasuji was ultimately the Supreme Commander of the Japanese Expeditionary Army in China and a Class-A war criminal. Starting from his role as Commander of the 11th Army, Okamura participated in the entire process of the war. In a report titled "Opinions on Military Operations for the Swift Resolution of the Japan-China Incident" submitted to the High Command on November 14, 1939, Okamura wrote: "The core of the enemy's anti-Japanese forces lies neither in the 400 million Chinese people, nor in the will of government leaders, nor in the 2 million anti-Japanese troops including various local miscellaneous forces, but solely in the anti-Japanese will of the Central Army directly under Chiang Kai-shek, with young officers from the Whampoa Military Academy system as its backbone. As long as this army exists, a swift peaceful resolution is like climbing a tree to catch fish..."

Obviously, Okamura regarded "the anti-Japanese will of the Central Army directly under Chiang Kai-shek, with young officers from the Whampoa Military Academy system as its backbone" as the mainstay of the resistance. Who knows if it was because Okamura flattered Chiang Kai-shek so much that Chiang later let him off. The inside story of Chiang Kai-shek releasing the Japanese war criminal and former Expeditionary Army Commander Okamura is probably another thing with no standard answer.

Actually, debating who was the mainstay is utterly meaningless -- at most it's a war of words. Your backside determines your brain. Meaningless. The key is why there was this catastrophic flood in the first place. For ordinary people, it's best not to have floods. It's best not to need some "mainstay" because of floods. As for arguing about who the mainstay was -- that's even more boring.

The day when we don't need any "mainstay" because there is no flood -- that's when China will be truly strong. Whoever can keep the Chinese borders forever free from war -- that person is the true mainstay!
