Taiwan Now Has a Traditional Chinese Edition of "Quotations from Mao" -- When Will We See a Simplified Chinese Edition of "Quotations from Chiang" on the Mainland?
According to media reports: "Recently a Taiwanese publisher has issued a Traditional Chinese edition of Quotations from Mao. The publisher says this small Quotations from Mao has already gone to its third printing -- the latter two because of enthusiastic response from overseas markets like Hong Kong and Singapore, with demand exceeding supply. As for who is reading the 200 NT dollar Quotations from Mao in Taiwan's bookstores, the publisher says they truly don't know which demographic is buying this book." Taiwan now has a Traditional Chinese edition of Quotations from Mao. When will we see a Simplified Chinese edition of Quotations from Chiang on the mainland?
Regardless of what kind of person Chiang was, someone Mao wanted to bring down was naturally not a simple person. Having been Mao's opponent for decades, even from the standpoint of "know thyself, know thy enemy," a Simplified Chinese mainland edition of Quotations from Chiang is probably not entirely unnecessary.
Furthermore, for the sake of restoring historical truth, many people would probably be very interested to see just how heinously evil the Generalissimo was, just how blood-soaked his hands were. This murderous tyrant with supposedly no humanity -- now that even a Super Girl with a deviation index of only 1 can be all the rage, the Generalissimo with a deviation index of 100 would predictably cause an even bigger sensation.
Additionally, the Generalissimo had considerable research into Wang Yangming. Nowadays any random hack writer can poke fun at historical figures and become a so-called master of national studies. Even if the Generalissimo's insights on Wang Yangming are garbage, at least the sales wouldn't be garbage.
It's already the 21st century. The Generalissimo's old business is really nothing to be taboo about. Nowadays any random historical figure from ancient times can get a TV drama treatment. There's no need for a special TV drama about the Generalissimo -- it would be poorly made anyway. Better to start with some authentic original Quotations from Chiang. That would probably be simpler and more meaningful.
