Regulated Verse: February

2008/3/15 7:33:36

Made plans to go on an outing with someone, so the meditation post can't be written. A regulated verse as a substitute. Don't waste this glorious spring — even if you live to a hundred, you'll only see it a hundred times. Cherish it.

Months in classical poetry always refer to the lunar calendar.

February

Chán Zhōng Shuō Chán

In February, winds and sunlight fresh in the mortal world
Goose-yellow, duck-green, cerulean sky
Red so tender, purple so delicate — eyes newly opened
Jade pale, tangerine rich — boats launched at dawn
Here and there idle clouds drift near and far
One pot of clear wine — let sleeping or waking come
Orioles singing, swallows chattering, ten thousand trees
Warbling on the branches — how utterly lovely
