Sorry, just got back. This afternoon and evening I had two separate tedious meetings about commercial matters. But tonight's significance isn't about those. After 9 PM I rushed to a third event — a small gathering. A friend is flying south tomorrow to put out a fire in a certain province. The cause of the incident is more absurd than all slapstick jokes combined. After the absurdity passes, a chill reaches the bone. My China, sigh.

It's like watching a play — never go backstage, or you might as well stop watching. Sometimes, being just an audience member, slack-jawed with drool at the corner of your mouth, might actually be a form of happiness.
