Modern Western music has an inexhaustible source in a brook -- that brook wider than the ocean. Today's program, these six Unaccompanied Cello Suites, is but one ladle from this brook, yet enough to occupy every cellist for a lifetime. This is the Bible of the cello, just as his Well-Tempered Clavier is the Bible of the piano.

Life's monologue, without any accompaniment, only the solitude of the cello, like life walking through the vast universe. All brilliance returns to tranquility. Here there is only life's most transparent confrontation. Stripped of all appearances, yet reflecting the entire world. Honestly, the music here is even more about life, more about the world than 'Moon Reflected in the Erquan Spring.' All sorrow and joy are sublimated in the music, yet it remains worldly -- having nothing to do with any so-called heaven.

Before true music, words are forever pale. Just go and listen.
